Discipleship Groups and Resources
River Church aims to be a disciple-making church (Matthew 28:28-20). One way we live this out is through Discipleship Groups, or D-Groups. These are gender-specific small groups of 3 to 4 men or women who meet on a regular basis to encourage one another in their spiritual growth.
What happens in a D-Group?
When we meet in D-groups, our goal is to invest in each other so that we grow into deeper Christian maturity (Colossians 1:28). We open our lives to each other, share burdens with each other, and commit to apply the scriptures to our lives.
We check-up on certain areas of growth: How has our time in God’s Word been lately? How are we doing with loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength? Are we trusting God, or are we trusting in ourselves? How is our holiness and purity? We spend time praying for each other, holding each other accountable, and encouraging each other to have a vibrant, authentic ministry to those around us who don’t yet know Jesus (Hebrews 10:24, 2 Corinthians 5:20).
We encourage D-Groups to form out of our Community Groups; we also just simply encourage D-Groups to happen! We need each other. We need to invest in each other’s lives, and disciple one another into greater maturity and Christ-likeness. Discipleship requires us to be intentional with each other, and to love each other sacrificially.
