2020 has been a year of many surprises, but we serve a God that is never changing and always in control. I am so thankful that we can get out of the house a bit and celebrate Christmas at River Road to Bethlehem, the retelling of the Christmas Story! A gentle reminder, if you see any friends along the way we encourage you to wave or even say hello, but please make sure you stay at least six feet away per recommendations of the CDC. We want everyone to stay safe.
Please take a moment to pray for our country, leaders and a cure for COVID19. Now take a moment to thank the Lord for our many blessings and the freedom we have to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
Hundreds and hundreds of years before Jesus was born a man named Isaiah was thinking about God. Isaiah was a special messenger of God called a prophet. God spoke to Isaiah and sent him a special message for his people. A message of good news! Isaiah understood that a very special baby would be born that would bring light to the darkness of the whole world. Isaiah did not know when or who this baby would be. He only knew it would happen in God’s perfect time. We know that this baby is Jesus and he is the reason to rejoice this Christmas season. As we get ready to travel through the Christmas story remember this…..when you see twinkling lights all around you the best light of all is from Jesus. He is the light of the world.
Transition to the next house: This is the season to celebrate the birth of our savior who came to spread love, hope, peace and joy. Get ready to go to the next stop, let’s look back at an amazing story that happened a long time ago.
Stop #2: 1220 W Brooks St Norman Ok 73069
Look outside your car – what do you see at this house?
Many years ago God sent the beautiful angel, Gabriel, to Mary, who lived in Nazareth. At first it frightened her, but the angel reassured her not to be afraid. I am the angel of the Lord, and I have a message for you “You will have a son and he will be named Jesus. He will be the son of God and the mighty king, King of the whole world!” Mary listened closely to the angel’s wonderful words and her heart was filled with joy. She bowed down to worship God. When we worship just like Mary, God hears our words and smiles.
We can worship God in many ways. Some examples are through praying, singing, and reading our bible. Below you will find a song link. Use the link to worship Jesus through song. Sing with your family, worshipping Jesus brings warmth to our hearts and his.
Transition to the next house: As followers of Jesus, we can celebrate all the fun things about Christmas, but it is also the time to think about the reason for this special holiday. Let’s head to our next stop to see more of the Christmas story.

Mary married Joseph, a carpenter, and at that time the King wanted to have a census (list of all the people), so that everyone would pay their taxes. Poor Mary and Joseph had a long journey to make (about 70 miles) from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph traveled by donkey and the journey was slow.
Pray as a family: Tonight as we think of Mary and Joseph and their long journey to Bethlehem we see that Mary and Joseph trusted the Lord and had faith in hard times. That shows us to have faith and trust in the Lord when we face hard times too. Please help us to remember the true meaning of Christmas as we end this year and plan for all the activities that lead to Christmas. Amen
Transition to the next house: After Mary and Joseph’s long journey something very important and exciting will take place in Bethlehem. Get ready to head to the next stop to see what it could be!
You made it! Don’t you love being out on this cold winter evening? Take a look at this next stop. What do you see?
When Mary and Joseph arrived at Bethlehem on a cold December night, they had so many problems finding a place to stay. Since so many people had come to register for the census, every house was full and every Inn had no room. Joseph was full of despair, what could he do? At last one innkeeper saw Mary so tired and weary and led them to a stable where the animals were kept. It was there Mary and Joseph would settle for the night. A single star in the sky shining so bright, under that star and while all the animals slept the special child that was promised to Mary and Joseph was born. Mary and Joseph both full of joy took no time in deciding the name for this special boy. An angel of the Lord had appeared to Joseph a while ago. The angel told him that Mary will have a son, and he will be named Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Mary wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a bed of straw in a manger. Baby Jesus, the Greatest GIFT to the World was born that night.
God did a great miracle that cold December day Jesus was born. During this season we enjoy giving gifts to family and friends. Please remember that Jesus is the greatest gift we could ever receive. He is God’s gift to us, HE IS OUR SAVIOR!
Transition to the next house: Let’s travel to the next house and see what happens next in this exciting story.

As the shepherds were keeping a watch over their flock an Angel of the Lord appeared. The shining glory of the Lord shone all around them and the Shepherds were so very scared. The angel said to them, “There is nothing to fear. I bring good news of great joy; a Savior, the Messiah, the Lord is born in Bethlehem today. You will find him wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
Suddenly the sky filled with angels praising God, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
When the angels disappeared into the sky, the shepherds decided to go to Bethlehem to see the miracle child. They told all the wonderful news the angels shared with them.
God shared the news of Jesus’ birth with the shepherds because God saw them as noble and honest messengers. How can you be a noble, honest, trustworthy messenger of God? Share your thoughts with the people traveling in the car with you.
Transition to the next house: Let’s head to the last stop and find out more about Jesus’ birth and the true meaning of Christmas.

You arrived at your last stop. Let’s Celebrate! What do you find at this house?
You see the wise men. Once they heard the wonderful news that a Savior was born they left and followed the star shining bright in the east. They followed the star until it led them to the very stable that Jesus lay. When they arrived they were filled with such joy and excitement. They found Jesus in Mary’s arms and bowed down to worship him laying gifts before him. The gifts were gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These were gifts fit for a king.
You have come to the end of your journey. I hope you had the best time! During the Christmas season, please remember the true reason to celebrate, the birth of Jesus Christ.
A child has been born to us. God has given a son to us. He will be responsible for leading the people. His name will be Wonderful Counselor, Powerful God, Father Who Lives Forever, and Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
